All-in-one combined articles from long out of print “The Diamond” magazines 5-1, 5-2, and 6-1, by William Burt. The River Line was built as lesser grade single track main that most Erie and Erie Lackawanna freights used to avoid the higher grade on the Cuba NY to Hornell NY original main line. It stretched from Cuba Jct to River Jct (Hunt) NY. This is the story, with photographs, from the survey to abandonment. Very well written with supplemental information placed in this book form. It also describes the hardships and maintenance issues that plagued this important and heavily used bypass.
